I have loved getting to interview the kids the last few months for the portion of our newsletter called “Spotlight on the Kids.” It has been so fun to just get to ask them some silly and serious questions, and hear their answers. One of the questions I loved hearing the responses to is, “what is the biggest gift you have received from the ministry?” As I ask this question, I expect responses like an exciting birthday gift or Christmas gift they have gotten. This month, just like all the other months the kids have blown me away. Never once have I gotten responses about things or gifts, but rather about their education, their growing ability to speak English, or about knowing Jesus. This month was no different. Jesus called us to love the children, and our children here feel and know they are loved. What an honor to be the hands and feet of Jesus serving His children.
Exciting Summer Plans
We are approaching the end of the school year. There is excitement and fear all at the same time. You remember the feeling: so excited to not have to go to school, but also keep down a little nervous that you might get a little bored. Don’t worry! We have an exciting summer planned for our kids. We will keep you posted as the summer progresses about all the fun things we are doing! Also, with the excitement of school ending, there is quite a buzz around about the upcoming wedding of two of our favorite people, Abby and Jordan. They will be married here on June 8th. We are so excited to get to be a part of their special day!
H2H Soccer Teams
The last couple months some of our older boys and girls have been busy training hard, mentally and physically for our school soccer teams. The whole school has gathered after school on Wednesdays for the girls and Fridays for the boys, to support our teams! Our volunteer Abby has been coaching the girls’ team. They have been so fun to watch and have greatly improved as their games have gone on. The girls have taken on the female teachers, defeating them both times, the games have sure been very memorable. The boys have been led by our very own Josue, and are also really exciting to watch. They have also played against the teachers, and a couple of other schools. This has been such an exciting thing for the kids to be involved in, both players and fans alike!
Fun Visitors & Volunteers
Last month brought some pretty exciting visitors, however I may be slightly biased since one of them was my brother. Ryker, my younger brother came for his second visit. It was a surprise, so it was pretty sweet to see how excited everyone was to see him. We also have a couple here from Lewis County, Jordan Stanton and Brittany Bywater. They both just graduated from college, and wanted to give a month to serve. We are so thankful to have them here loving on the kids. Also, Mr. David returned for a visit. Everyone was so excited to have him back. He was just here for a week, but it was so great to have this special member of our family back visiting!
Welcome Home Serrano Family!
We also welcomed back the Serrano family this month after their long fundraising trip in the United States. We are all very happy to have them back, and we will no longer need to the answer the question, “When will Mami Amy and Tio be home?” Welcome back Serranos, you indeed were missed!
