Partial one ended with a bang with the all-school International Fair and Feast Celebration! You have heard of “Around the World in 80 days”? Well, our school made it in ONE day; from Egypt, to Brazil, to England, Catalonia, Israel, India, China, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, AND Greece!!!
The actual journey began about 6 weeks ago when each class chose a foreign country to research. One thing led to another and before we knew it, the students, staff, administration, parents, grandparents, visiting mission team and neighbors were all involved in the most amazing creative adventure of communication, collaboration, and teamwork I have ever experienced in my teaching career!!
Parent meetings were held to see who had “stuff” from the countries their children were researching. Then, furniture, drapes, tables and all manner of household items began making their way to school from everyone’s homes to transform the classrooms into the countries they were studying.
Then began the food prep part. At our house alone, amazing dishes and drinks representing at least 4 different countries were being prepared well into the night.
On the day of the celebration at 12:45 sharp, the flight began, complete with airline tickets from the Mary Frenter Airlines and passports for all the visitors who gathered in the “Airport” for the preview performances by each country. With dance, song, poetry, drama and video presentation, our students led us around the world. After that, everyone “flew” all over the school to visit the “countries”, getting their passports stamped at each stop, being led by tour guides through the wonders of each country, and sampling the delicious treats from around the world. Just a few hours later, the end of day bell rang, but nobody wanted to go home. In fact, in the Kinder/Prepa Room, (Brazil) children were crying because they did not want to go home. Thank you, Jesus for helping us create an amazing memory for our children!
