August is here! For many of us, that means that all the summer clothing is going on sale as the fall apparel prepares to roll out (remember I mentioned that). For some, it means a season of drama as we are preparing to get the kids back in school. For us, this season has been a demonstration of God’s faithfulness. Let me explain why. All of you that have followed our newsletters know that last year about this time we secured a piece of property near our current school property in Puerto Cortes.
For us, this season has been a demonstration of God’s Faithfulness!
The property was sold to us at a no interest rate loan that we were also allowed to set the conditions of payment for as we were able. This property for years was a piece of land that was used to do great harm. A rent by the hour hotel once stood there that was used for illegal gambling, drugs, and above all, prostitution and the sale of minors. God stripped it away from the evil doers and put it into our hands. We had not one penny to bargain with, nor did we know how this would go forward, but we stepped out onto the water, and just watched God work.
As you can see in the photos, this is what has become of that once cursed piece of land, a school were children will come this fall, and will be taught the love of God! Now that is faithfulness! As I sat and prayed about what God wanted said in this newsletter, I felt that He wanted it said that He is still a God that moves mountains, still a God that can take what is broken, a virtual valley of dry bones and speak life into it once again. I have been encouraged over these past few months to take what I have seen God do in the ministry and apply it to my own personal problems and know that God still delights in restoring justice, answering our prayers and bringing us from triumph to triumph.
We are so excited about this upcoming school year. As always it is down to the wire and classes are set to begin in less than a month and we are a considerable distance from the finish line, or at least our human nature would say so, and then the first day of class will come along and we will see God had it more than under control! We believe that if God has been so faithful to make all of this happen under miraculous circumstances, then His plan for the outcome must be beyond belief! Several new programs are on the agenda as Mary has mentioned in her article that will allow us to reach even more people. We want to thank so many for making this possible, and a special thanks to Sweet Bread Ministries, which has been a major provider in the building of this school. We pray that God blesses them 100 times over for all that they have given.
Did I mention at some point that summer clothes are on sale? Well I think they are and we can really use them. So I officially put a call out to all that can, when you are in a clothing store to think about spending a few extra bucks on getting the clothes that our kids depend on. We would definitely be very thankful! We especially need things like socks, underwear, bras, shoes, shorts and tops. If you are able to pick up those things on your trip to the store and get them to our Clackamas office, or if you personally know someone that would be coming to Honduras and get it to them, we will make sure it gets to the kids! In addition, something else that we can use is school supplies. I think you can also find deals on those things in the US as well. We depend on donations just like that to supply our kids with the things they need for school. If you happen to be in Wal-Mart and can pick up a few things and get them to our office in Clackamas, we will make sure that they get to our kids!
We were very blessed this month by the visit of Trinity Lutheran Church from Walden, New York. Their mission focus was to build some new closets for our kids, however I think what actually was built was lifelong, enduring, God appointed relationships between our kids and a group a folks from a world away. So new closets were built that have gone to various different houses so that the kids have storage for their clothing and other things. We are so thankful for all that you have done, and we look forward to seeing you all here again!
We want to ask for your prayers for the health of our kids. This summer we have battled lots of health issues. There have been lots of skin infections, stomach infections, eye infections and some minor surgeries. This has been hard on kids as they have not been able to enjoy summer as much. Also it has meant medical expenses that we were not prepared for. We know that God knew that this would happen, and in the end I think all of the kids got the care that they needed and are on the mend. Also God provided for all of our needs. But we ask for your prayers for the continued health of our kids. We ask for specific prayer this month for Lesly and Mayra as they are both recovering from infections.
Thank you all for being such an encouragement to all of us. Your love of the ministry overwhelms us. Each day we are confronted with circumstances that seem so huge at the time, but God loves those opportunities! My prayer for each of you is that God will supply all of your needs according to His riches in glory!
