This holiday season was simply magical! We had an amazing December and it was so awesome that I really don’t even know where to begin! Let me begin back in October when the ministry put out a call to the supporters, sponsors, and churches. Our request was that they could help with either funds and or gifts for the kids. The response was simply amazing! So many responded and it was beyond what we imagined. God provided enough for a gift, a new outfit, and the funds to put on the Christmas and New Year’s feast! All we can say is YOU are all AWESOME. May God bless you all beyond what you have given.
Not only do we have an amazing group of U.S. supporters, we also have an amazing group of Honduran supporters. Last year we elected a new board of directors here in Honduras and they have MORE than responded. These people began in September going to individuals, businesses, and churches to gather donations of food, drinks, decorations, and gifts. A gift sponsor was found for each child that then came in person to present their gifts to the children. While we were in the States, we were able to purchase the new Christmas clothes for the kids. Over 300 people were present at the event, which took place on the December 19th. It was an amazing night, and again we can’t say thank you enough.
Our celebration continued through Christmas night and again on the 31st! Each year we make tamales at the village, probably well over 1,000 of them, which is very labor intensive. It is, however, a family event. Each year the kids work together with the house mommies on the assembly of these Christmas traditions. There is nothing better than waking up late on the morning of the 25 th and having tamales for breakfast! On the night of the 31 st it was s’mores night. Each kid ate at least 6 to 7 s’mores that they themselves roasted to perfection over our bon fire. It was the plan to stay up until midnight to do our annual toast, but alas, it was 9:30 pm and many of our kids (and adults) were beginning to fall off the grid. So at 10:30 we gathered and did our annual toast, welcoming the new year an hour and half early!
During the two weeks off school we weren’t bored either. It was painting and construction everywhere! The boys in Puerto Cortes continued to work on the construction of our new school which is advancing wonderfully! The girls at the teen girl’s house took the two weeks off to paint the entire house inside and out.
Once again how can we say thank you to God and all of you enough? The only way that we know how is to honor your prayers and giving by working each day a little harder. Each day the vision grows in our hearts, as we strive more and more to see HIS kingdom come and HIS will be done here in Honduras as it is in Heaven. We know that now more than ever, the Lord is on the move and desires to reach even more children that are in need. We ask for your continued prayers and support as He continues to expand HIS kingdom here.
