Working with our house moms at the village we developed a list of staples that poorer families would be able to use: rice, flour, salt, soda, spaghetti, soup mix, coffee, etc. After shopping for the supplies we met at the school where our 11th grade students joined in with our team to assemble food bags for 80 families.
The bags were loaded into the back of a pickup and we went to the garbage dump where 50 families were in need of food. Our students and team members all expressed sadness at the poverty they witnessed. Then we went to El Horizonte (The Horizon), a small community where our 11th graders go each week to teach people to read. We gave out more food bags there.
While distributing food we were able to pray with several people. Two asked Jesus into their hearts. Two asked for healing prayer and appeared to be well. Praise God for his blessings and mercy!
