President's desk: The Summer Goes On All Year

Picture7October is usually associated with the beginning of fall…end of summer…cold weather returns. Not so much in Honduras. The summer goes on all year, weather-wise. It is a bit cooler, but not so you notice. Here the sun only changes its coming up and going down a matter of minutes throughout the year, so there is about the same amount of daylight all year. From our front porch, we all stared in awe at the lunar eclipse a few nights ago. It was VERY clear and spectacular!!!

new digsThe teen boys and our volunteers, Mr. Steve and Mr. Scott, moved into their new digs a couple of weeks ago. They are now less than a block away from the school. It is perfect. Often some of the boys show up at my office after school to work on homework, as I finish my day. Sweet times I will treasure always.

It is Sunday. Sunday School is over. I am sitting in my office at school getting caught up on School News Since the last newsletter, our 7-11 grade students marched in our first Independence Day Parade!! It some “must do’s”. Knock on the door… it is Walter and Olvin. Just checking to see if I will be here long enough for them to watch the game. Yes, I will. In they come. We share a cup of coffee and some cookies. I get to work, they get to watchin’. I have “Lord, I give you my heart…” playing in the back ground. They hum along as they watch. Just Gramma and her boys hanging out. LOVE it!!!

Last Saturday we were blessed to get to see Walter play soccer at the stadium for the first time
on a semi-pro team. He scored a goal!! Read more about Walter’s story in this edition.

School News

Since the last newsletter, our 7-11 grade students marched in our first Independence Day Parade!! It was impressive!! We were even on National TV!! We also held the Student Body Government Elections. Here we pattern how we conduct our election after the way it is done nationally. The whole 11 th grade got involved and all was done very professionally, with ballot booths, people to oversee the voting, and counting of votes. We now have new Student Body Officers who were “sworn in” at our Chapel on Wednesday.
