Continuing this month, we are giving you some insights about some of our children so you can learn more about them, highlight their accomplishments and successes as the Lord moves them along the path of their lives.
Juliana is 8 years old, in the 2nd grade and has been with Heart to Heart since she was two. She came to Heart to Heart with her older sister, 3 older brothers and younger sister. She likes her brothers and sisters because they are all very sweet. Indeed, she is right about that. When Juliana grows up, she would like to be a pediatrician so that she can help other people. Being a typical 8 year old, Juliana likes to play with all her sisters at the Village and with all her friends at school. She was very specific to mention that she likes to play with her girlfriends at school, so she obviously is still in the stage where boys are gross. Her favorite colors are purple, pink, green and blue. Her favorite subject in school is spelling, because she said it comes very easy for her. Her teacher says she does a great job of paying attention and working hard in class. God has great plans for this spunky and sassy little girl. How exciting to watch how God will grow and shape little Juliana.
Oh, to be in preschool again, learning how to study and write your name. This is exactly what sweet little Genesis is doing. She sure is a happy girl and is so excited about “learning to study and learning to write her name.” Genesis must also be learning her colors, because she was quick to answer with her favorite colors, orange and green. She is 4 years old and has been a part of the Heart to Heart family for about six months. She lives here with her older brother, big sister and baby sister, as well. She and her siblings were saved out of a gang situation, and are thriving and adjusting well to their new life. Genesis was asked several questions about her favorite things about the Village and her brother and sisters. Her response was interestingly the same for all the questions; beans, vegetables and tejadas! She also likes having spicy sauce on her food. Even though she isn’t quite sure what she wants to be, maybe with her love of food she will one day bless people with her cooking abilities. What a blessing to see this little girl, filled with such a contagious joy. God has brought her out of a very desperate place, and though young, He will continue to be at her side and show her favor in all she will encounter.
What a difference a year makes. Last year, Elena would run away when someone wanted to talk to her or turn her head if someone said hi. This year her friend, Suyapa, has been teaching her to be more friendly and outgoing. It is a very evident and exciting change. While being interviewed and asked several questions, the smile never left her face. She has also come to know that God really does love her, and she wants to make sure that everyone who reads this knows that God loves them, as well. When Elena grows up she would like to be a gynecologist. She loves babies and thinks it would be really exciting to work with women as they prepare for and eventually give birth. Elena is 14 and in 7th grade. Her favorite subject in school is Spanish. She loves how her teacher does a great job of explaining and making things very clear. Elena lives at the Village with her brother Fernando. He is a good brother, and she is a good little sister, because as little sisters should, she loves to bother him. Elena always wears her beautiful, long, curly black hair in a ponytail on the right side of her head. She says she does this because it doesn’t feel as heavy when she wears it that way. It is wonderful how God has used others to teach Elena important lessons, and now that Elena has learned to be more friendly and outgoing herself, it will be exciting to see all the different lessons that God will use her to teach to others. What an exciting future sweet Elena has in front of her.
