This was not the typical trip for Rick and me to Honduras. We were blessed with a variety of exciting events and opportunities that took place over the course of 9 days. While each trip is special and unique for us, we were exceptionally blessed to be present for Jordan and Abby’s wedding. Beloved teachers and now a beloved couple. But my heart was longing for the streets and villages of Honduras.
Honduras has many needs and one of them is to train up their own to be servant leaders in Honduras. Rick and I came to impart to our teens a healing and evangelism anointing. Then we walked out that prayer over them. We purchased, packed and carried physical necessities to their fellow countrymen. Our teens translated for our team of five, except for Rick who speaks fluent Spanish. While out for two days both Jehovany and Cristofer led people to Jesus. I wish I had the camera as Jehovany realized what he helped do. His dark completion was radiant with a white toothed smile from ear to ear. Cristofer seeing what happened was eager to share next. He led a young couple with a family of 3 to the Lord. God is good, all the time.
Our very first stop was for a woman sitting outside her home. Her home consisted of broken plywood laid up against some poles; a strong gust of wind could blow them to the ground. As we approached her I noticed her feet were caked in mud. We handed her some food and asked what she would like prayer for? She said, “A better home.” I would love to go back there with our teens and raise up a suitable dwelling for her and her children. This set the tone for the next two days; as Shalese would say, ”Live to Give”. You see she understands this way of life.
Shalese grew up on the mission field for 18 of her young 22 years in Zimbabwe, Africa. She knows what it’s like to have no food and to have care packages sent. She is now the sent. Shalese wrote the book, “Live to Give”; and as she read this story to the children she shared her story as well. They were taken by her sincerity and genuineness. In her short time in the US she has become runner up for Miss Oregon and is currently competing for Miss Washington in July of 2015. Her platform is Worldwide Heart to Heart Ministries. For her this life is real and she has the personal life testimonies to attest to it.
Shalese, Aubry, Denise, Rick and I spent hours with our children playing games, celebrating birthdays, writing sponsor letters and leading a Youth Night at the Village. Colby and Hannah Berscheid started a junior High Youth group at the Village and the kids love getting together. We sang, played games and heard what Jesus had to say. All in all this entire trip was hugely successful if not only to love on the children but to lead them into a deeper walk with our Savior.
