Hi, my name is Carrie Osborn and I am a 1st grade teacher volunteer this year at the H2H school in Honduras. I am from Clackamas, Oregon. I have made it through the first whirlwind weeks of teaching!
First grade is challenging, but rewarding. It has been challenging because of the size of the class (26 kids!) and the language barrier, which makes communication and classroom management a lot harder than I expected! It has been rewarding, because I love being around all of the kids. They are a sweet bunch and I’m excited for what Jesus has in store for our class! I have three aides, Miss Jensi, Miss Hilda and Miss Sarahi. I am so thankful for their help.
life at the Children’s Village: VOLUNTEER STYLE
I live at the Children’s Village about 45 minutes from the school, which means leaving for school by 6:00 AM and getting home around 3:30 PM! It’s a long, and crowded bus ride, but it’s a lot of fun, and… I usually manage to get a nap during at least one of the trips! While there are days when I get homesick and feel restless, I love that I’m always surrounded by action. I can hear the sound of laughter, music, kids playing, delicious meals being cooked, and people loving each other as a family, at pretty much any given time.
With zero sarcasm, I can also say that I love getting home from a day of teaching kids and getting to play with even MORE kids. Seriously, it brings joy to my life and I thank God for the fun and often spiritual interactions I’ve gotten to have with the kids and teenagers I live with!
Here’s how you can pray for us. First, pray for the school. The Secondary School, grades 5-11, have just joined grades K-4 at the new school. Pray for relationships to prosper in the school and at the Village as we begin this 2016-17 School Year adventure.
